Weekly Action Items

As the summer comes to a close, here are some tips for keeping action items to a manageable level:

•Pick one or two that are dire or you feel the most passionate about
•Select one item to tackle each day
•If you think there’s an issue not getting attention, let us know on Facebook or through email!

If you can do them all, that’s great! But we understand it can be overwhelming. With all that said, we need as many voices as we can get, so here’s this week’s action items!

#ActionItem: Prioritize hurricane relief over all funding.
SCRIPT:

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [TOWN/ZIP].

I’m calling today to ask [SENATOR NAME] to set partisan issues aside to pass a robust Hurricane Harvey disaster relief fund and oppose any spending on a US-Mexico border wall. It would be unconscionable to prioritize funding for an unnecessary construction project over hurricane relief aid for thousands of Americans.

Thank you for your hard work answering the phones.

#ActionItem: Oppose climate change denier Jeffrey Bossert Clark for top environmental prosecutor

CALL:
Senator Schumer: 585.263-5866/202.224.6542
Senator Gillibrand: 585.263.6250/202.224.4451

SCRIPT:
Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [TOWN/ZIP].

I’m calling to oppose Jeffrey Bossert Clark for Assistant Attorney General for the DOJ Environmental and Natural Resources Division. Clark is a climate change denier whose opposition to environmental regulations and protections makes him unsuitable for the role of enforcing America’s environmental laws.

Thank you so much for your time.

#ActionItem: Advocate for censuring the president for condoning racism.

CALL: Your rep: http://www.house.gov/representatives/find

SCRIPT: Hi. I am from [ZIP] and deeply concerned about the president’s apparent tolerance for white supremacist views in his cabinet and racist aggression in our communities. I am calling to request that [name] join with fellow House representatives in co-sponsoring H.Res 496, which censures the president for his handling of the Charlottesville violence. Can I count on [name] to sign it? (Note: Louise Slaughter is a co-sponsor)

#ActionItem: Advocate for your frightened neighbors and oppose domestic terrorism.

CALL: Your state legislator http://bit.ly/2vi3vFT

SCRIPT: I am a constituent in [town] and inspired by the new legislation passed in Illinois classifying neo-Nazis as terror organizations. I would like [name] to author legislation like this in [state]. While I respect the right to free speech and assembly, our neighbors are terrified to walk down the street. [Name] can stop this. Would you like me to send the full text used in Illinois? Thank you. (Full text: http://bit.ly/2vXvb4w)

WRITE: Thank State Senator Don Harmon for introducing legislation that would identify neo-Nazi groups as terrorist organizations in Illinois. 329 Capitol Building, Springfield, IL 62706
