Organizing for Action

June 5, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Based in the previously identified areas of advocacy, we will start to develop action plans for enacting change.

Top action priorities include:

1. Education – Items would include (but are not limited to): addressing the hiring of teachers and staff of color, a more culturally diverse curriculum but specifically the teaching of history that is more inclusive of people/events that have contributed to our society but are normally omitted, teacher/staff/school board training related to racial equity, black student graduation rates, etc.

2. Black History in Brighton display – finding a permanent home for the display that was created by Town Historian, Mary Jo Lamphear

3. Employment diversity – making sure all of our Town of Brighton hires are seeking out/hiring/retaining racially diverse candidates
