Perspectives on Nicaragua (ROCLA)

September 5 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

“Perspectives on Nicaragua: Two progressive viewpoints on current Nicaraguan reality”

Wednesday, September 5th at 7:00 PM

Downtown United Presbyterian Church
121 North Fitzhugh St., Rochester

Our September program will examine the recent anti-government protests and violence in Nicaragua. Generally, the U.S and international press have blamed the Nicaragua government of President Daniel Ortega for the attacks on citizens, police, and infrastructure. Because of almost uniformly anti-government coverage of these events, it’s difficult to discern the complicated reality on the ground.

Michael Argaman and Arnold Matlin will present their views on what is really happening in Nicaragua. Argaman and Matlin are both long-time ROCLA members with deep and historical involvement in Nicaragua.

Karleen West, Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations at SUNY Geneseo, will moderate the debate.

This event hopes to shed more light on the current situation in Nicaragua than recent conflicting media coverage has provided.

Free parking; accessible; looped for the hearing impaired.
