Unpacking™ So You Want to Talk About Race
June 11 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm$10
Join Founder/Executive Director Calvin Eaton in an informal and thought provoking chat around socially conscious books that are must reads for anyone doing or interested in social and race activism work.
How do you tell your roommate her jokes are racist? Why did your sister-in-law take umbrage when you asked to touch her hair–and how do you make it right? How do you explain white privilege to your white, privileged friend?
About So You Want to Talk About Race
In So You Want to Talk About Race, Ijeoma Oluo guides readers of all races through subjects ranging from intersectionality and affirmative action to “model minorities” in an attempt to make the seemingly impossible possible: honest conversations about race and racism, and how they infect almost every aspect of American life.

Unpacking™ is a series of informal and thought provoking discussions based around socially conscious books that are must reads for anyone doing or interested in social and race activism work. These chats are held at and 540WMain as well as various community spaces around the city of Rochester. The discussions are geared towards white people and others interested in learning about internal bias, microagressions, the experience of black people in the U.S, and those interested in working to dismantle Rochester and America’s culture of white supremacy.
